The [micro] Lab

CREATURE, a new musical by Sara Farb + Aaron Jensen

CREATURE is a new musical by Sara Farb and Aaron Jensen inspired by Milicent Patrick, one of Hollywood’s early female pioneers, and the designer of “Gill-Man”, AKA the Creature from the Black Lagoon. The piece follows Milicent's whirlwind rise in celebrity, her unjustifiable blacklisting from Hollywood orchestrated by a jealous studio head, and her ultimate monstrous, shocking rebirth.

This year's lab will consist of two work sessions for the writers of 3.5 hours each alongside Choreographer Alexandra Herzog with a cast of 6 performers, developing some new material - essentially test-driving a new relationship to see what kind of mutual discoveries the writers and choreographer can make. Our plan for this year is to have performers learn music in advance of the movement exploration, but ultimately the lab is still all about process, discovery, artistic development, and making new relationships with Canadian creators.
